Keeping your makeup look to a bare minimum can be a lot easier said than done, with so many products to choose from, each claiming to improve your natural beauty or add a certain something to your skin that you might be looking for. I’ve watched countless of ‘no makeup’ makeup looks that have a list of products longer than my arm and it can certainly start to get a bit confusing and difficult to achieve a simple makeup look, one that doesn’t acquire a lot of time or effort but can still make you look put together. Which is where this post comes in, to help you pick out your top 5 essential products for a simple makeup look suited to your needs.
The first product is the Bourjois 123 CC Cream, which is affordable and does exactly what it says on the package; it colour corrects and adds a healthy tint to the skin. I highly recommend a lighter base like this one for the months of summer, because it allows your skin to breath during the heat whilst still giving you a decent coverage. A CC cream in particular is great because the added pigments will cover up redness and dark circles so you can skip on the concealer.
For a touch of colour, I love the Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge for Lips & Cheeks (Coral Calypso) since it’s the perfect multi-tasking product. The creamy formula blends effortlessly on the cheeks and still looks vibrant enough for the lips. Not to mention that using your fingers to pat on the colour is all you need.
Even with dehydrated skin, setting my cream/liquid products in place is essential and for dry skin gals I recommend the Bourjois Healthy Balance Powder, as it somehow feels creamy and silky on the skin. A quick tip is to apply this very lightly over the skin, in an almost sweeping motion to avoid adding too much product.
Contouring can be a daunting task for most people and it can also look very unnatural, which is why all you want to do here is lightly bronze the face to add a sun kissed look to the skin, not forgetting to highlight also. One of my favourite products for the job is the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow, which will suit a wide range of different skin tones. This duo is very natural as it adds a healthy glow to the skin.
With the same bronzing & highlighting duo you can easily add some colour to the eyes, without the need of an extra palette. First apply the bronze shade all over the lid and focus on the crease for added depth. Next apply the highlighting shade on the inner corner of the eye and blend inwards. There you have it, a simple bronzed eye. Don’t worry if the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar palette is out of your price range, as drugstore brands have got some amazing dupes.
My last must have product for any makeup look is black mascara and the one I have opted for here is one of my favourites Benefit They’re Real. Mascara can instantly make you look more awake as it just opens your eyes. If you have an eyeliner brush in your reach, it also means that you can easily add some definition to the eyes by using the mascara as eyeliner, whether you create a cat flick or a soft line. I’ve opted for a softer, smoky line as I used a cotton bud to softly smudge the eyeliner because I think it suits the rest of the makeup look perfectly.
So there you have my 5 essential products for a super simple summer face. This is one of my favourite makeup looks to create during the summer months as it means I can look & feel good, whilst still enjoying the warm weather.
