I have come to the conclusion that old isn’t always too old. The shirt I wear to do my weekly supermarket shop and the skirt I wore three years ago to a party are still, even now, worthy of wearing on a date night.
You see, I used to believe that to love fashion one had to shop on a seasonal basis, buying trendy pieces that reflected the catwalks. However, I’m finally cool with the fact that, to be fashionable, one doesn’t need to follow trends or reinvent their style or look. Sometimes, change requires no change. All we need to do is use a little perspective. As the late Alexander McQueen once said, “It’s a new era in fashion – there are NO RULES”. Check.
So here I am, wearing that old skirt and that supermarket trip shirt like it was bought yesterday.
Think of your wardrobe as a diary, consisting of hows, whens and whys. Not all pieces are a result of ‘I just love to shop, it’s my thing.’ Some pieces go beyond substance, carrying memories. They deserve to be worn over and over again.
If you want to update your outfit, try adding a new accessory, such as shoes and a bag.
Get trendy through beauty; think lipstick and nails, or discover a new glowing foundation. Sometimes it’s the smallest things that bring that much desired sparkle to your style.
