“Women empower each other, girls compete with one another”
I came across the above quote last week and it got me thinking of all the great women in my life; how they have supported and loved me through my struggles and equally praised my achievements. More than anything, these words also got me wondering about the individuals who are no longer in my life.
It’s not common for us to drift away from those we once loved and cared about. Relationships, both personal and professional, are vulnerable, no matter how strong they may seem. So it’s important to focus on the positives and bring the best out of each other. Sounds simple I know, but sometimes it’s the simplest of things that are most difficult, especially if they involve emotions, so it is important to be honest and constructive and to resolve misunderstandings rather than rely on assumptions. As I grow older and wiser, I’m learning the importance of surrounding myself with like-minded people who want to better themselves and inspire those around them, rather than people who feel the desire to compete, gossip and bring me down.
It’s easy to forget that we’re responsible for our own lives and it’s up to us who we allow in. If you’re surrounded by individuals who consistently bring drama and are draining, then it might be time to make changes. Avoiding negativity isn’t easy, but it is not impossible, and you will feel so much better for it. If I find myself in a situation that is conflicting and stressful, I immediately move away from it and plant my energy into something productive, like reading a new book, learning a new skill or listening to an inspiring talk. Not only do I feel great, but I’ve also avoided something that will bring no good.
As women, we need to inspire, collaborate and celebrate one another, achieving your dreams is much more fun when you unite with others. It might seem like we are in competition, but I believe there is a place for everyone, ; so instead of focusing on winning, we need to focus on improving our own art and inspiring those around us. If you are embarking on a new journey, you want encouraging people around you who help build your confidence. ( And will dance with you in the rain to Spice Girls. When no one is watching of course! ☺ )
I believe that success isn’t just a result of what we do, it’s a result of who we do it with. So here’s to new beginnings and empowering all those awesome girls who really do ‘RUN THE WORLD’
