“ Reading is one of the most immediate methods for acquiring knowledge, ideas and strategies you need to achieve level 10 success in any area of your life” Hal Elrod
It was a beautiful Summer’s day, and I was spending it with one of my dearest friends. After a walk around the City, we grabbed an ice-tea, found a good spot and chilled until late evening. A dozen conversations later, we arrived at the discussion of careers. She informed me that working long hours at her job with no career progression had begun to take its toll; she was frustrated with herself, as she couldn’t find the motivation to move forward. She knew she was capable of more but didn’t know where to start.
I recommended reading motivational books, as learning from other people’s journeys is a great place to begin. She rejected the idea of reading, explaining that she was a terrible reader, found it hard to concentrate and hadn’t read a book since school. She added that she would love to, but find’s reading a struggle. Her response reminded me of many people that have said the same thing whenever I proposed a book to them.
Books are one of the greatest gifts you can ever give yourself, full of knowledge, tips, wisdom and beautiful stories that help you escape from everyday life. So below are a few tips I have shared and thought would be useful for all you aspiring book worms and business owners.
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”
Listening to audio books can be just as enjoyable as reading to one. I love listening to business audio books when I’m travelling, running or cooking. I use a app called Audible, as the narration is of such good quality.
WHERE TO BEGIN:
It’s important to start light, find a book on something that you’re passionate about, for example lifestyle, beauty, business or even cooking. If you prefer stories, Novella’s and short stories are great!
Start with a positive attitude, remind yourself why you’re reading and what you want to gain. Keeping the end goal in mind is a great way to begin.
Start, or join, a book club: I love reading the same books as my friends and family; we can discuss the characters and plots, or share what lessons we have learnt.
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION:
Find a place that relaxes you; it could be your bed or your local coffee shop. Make yourself a cup of tea and sip away as the pages turn.
I hope you find these tips helpful. Below I have listed some books that are great for first time readers. Please let me know how you get along, and if you have found any of the above useful.
I want to leave you with one final quote by Charles William Eliot
” Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.” #WORD
